The Malta Feline Guardian Club, MFGC, heralded in the New Year with the resounding success of its 26th International Cat Show, held at the Phoenicia Hotel on the 23rd of January.
The show celebrated the beauty and diversity of a wide variety of cat breeds. Cat lovers flocked to admire feline beauty in the many forms of which were included Persians, Exotics, British Long Hair, Sphinx, Maine Coons and the much loved Maltese Domestic cat. Not only did the constant stream of visitors crowd the cages but they also chatted enthusiastically with the owners and learned more about the cats that won their hearts. Children that attended were also enamoured with cat after cat and many coos and squeals of delight were heard from the young and not so young. The club invited a WCF all breed judge from Italy. Thus the club extends its thanks to the esteemed judge, Mr Walter Baraldi. Mr Baraldi had the delightful task of judging the cats. At the start of each category, Mr Baraldi stressed that each cat was of exceptional beauty and perfect in its own way, thereby rendering his role as judge a most difficult task indeed! It was however a magnificent red tabby blotched Maine Coon that won the General Best Cat in Show. Ms Rodiane Caligari proudly held up GIC.Suryamainecoon Oty as she received the award and the merited applause from the visitors. Other titles were given to the winning cats in the various categories. During this show the Best Cat of the Year 2010 was also announced. This selection was based on points awarded to exhibited cats throughout the 2009/2010 season. This honour went to World Champion Master Micabliss Eurocat Dior. The judge further commented on the high calibre of the show, a standard which is now synonymous with Cat Shows presented by MFGC. The theme of the show was ‘The Magic of Colours’ and Mr Baraldi selected the cage exhibiting Alex, the adorable black and white house cat belonging to Ms Natasha Camilleri, as the best decorated cage.

It is the faith the sponsors have in the club presenting Cat Shows of this quality that makes our shows possible. Furthermore the sponsors Happy Cat were most satisfied with the interest the visitors showed in their products. A thanks also goes to Toy Magic in Birkirkara for donating vouchers to the many children who participated in and won in the ‘guess the number of petals’ competition. Mr Micallef was grateful to the committee for their hard work and dedication in preparing this show.
